English Vinglish is a story of a housewife Shashi and her quest to learn English. Shashi has two kids and she lives in Mumbai with her family. Though she is a perfect house maker, she is often criticised by her husband and kids for not knowing English. Shashi's niece understands her pain and she tells her to learn English to get the respect of the family. Shashi takes the challenge to learn the language and joins an English speaking class. In her class, she is instructed to break long words into two to learn them, so she is told to learn Manhattan by breaking into two - Man and hattan. In the same way, she breaks the word judgemental into two, judge and mental. Shashi's struggle and determination to learn English makes the most interesting part of the movie. The movie shows the craze of Indian families to speak English, which creates many hilarious situations.
First and foremost, i like a lot the character of Mrs Sashi Godbole in this movie due to several good manners and moral values that had been shown by her to the spectators throughout the movie. That is precisely what Mrs Shashi Godbole (Sridevi), Pune-based mother of two, is constantly subjected to by her corporate executive-husband, Satish (Adil Hussain), and her school-going daughter.
-High determination in learning English.. Big smile!!
Mrs Sashi shows her love and care towards her family very tremendously although her husband and her daughter always condemned and make her feel ridiculed for her weakness in speaking in English. Through the film, Shashi (Sridevi), the perfect Indian middle-aged housewife, who knows no better than to keep her family happy. So, while her ever-busy-with-work hubby (Adil Hussain) and mocking daughter Sapna team up to scoff at her broken English, she takes it in her stride and feeds them yummy food instead. She loves cooking; snacks and ladoos to be precise. And packets of delicious food items made by her sell like hot cake in the neighbourhood. Her adorable younger son Sagar and mother-in-law (Sulabha Deshpande) provide her with the occasional but much required comic relief. She flies to The United States of America to help out with her niece’s wedding, two weeks before her family would join her. These two weeks prove to be crucial in Shashi’s life. Circumstances compel her to overcome her insecurities; master the English language and eventually transform into a self assured and confident woman.

Besides, Mrs Sashi also shows her determination and perseverance while learning to speak and pronounce English in the correct way at the New York when she was send by her husband several prior day before all her family went there. She try and put herself with badly effort even though she does not get the support from her husband and family. For me, it is quite hard and though to put ourselves in such a risk and critical condition.
